Taking intermodal connectivity to next level, Air India has announced a new partnership with Delhi Metro and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) to introduce check-in and baggage drop services for domestic and international passengers at two metro stations in Delhi. This domestic service will now be extended to international flyers as well.
Check-in and Baggage Drop at Delhi Metro Stations
Now, Air India passengers can check in their baggage at Delhi Metro Stations. The check-in and baggage drop facilities have been set up at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations, offering passengers the flexibility to complete the check-in process well in advance of reaching the airport.
Delhi Airport operator and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have jointly developed an automated infrastructure to transport passenger luggage to respective aircraft safely.
If you are flying within India, you can check in the baggage from 12 hours to 2 hours before departure. If you are flying internationally, the check-in window extends from 4 to 2 hours before departure. This service is available from 07:00 to 21:00 on a daily basis.
Hassle-Free Movement
With metro trains running every 10 minutes, the journey from these stations to Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport takes only 19 minutes. This ensures a swift and hassle-free transfer, avoiding the airport rush, especially in peak hours.
This is particularly beneficial for outstation travelers who arrive in Delhi well before their flight departure time. They can check in their luggage at the station and enjoy traveling around the city, without the luggage burden. Moreover, this will reduce airport congestion.
Air India Chief Customer Experience Officer, Rajesh Dogra said that this move will not only prove to be cost-effective but will also help reduce congestion at the airport. This will be a win-win situation for both airlines and the passengers. This initiative is aimed at enhancing customer convenience.
As the airline converts Delhi into a hub, steps like these are a welcome move. Passengers can avoid airport traffic and check in beforehand, allowing smooth connections. Streamlining the processes is one of the most important factors for a hub airport. With the introduction of e-passports, the transfer process at Indian airports will become more efficient.
