According to the airline statement, this connection will not only provide passengers with more options but will also enhance the growth in the region’s trade and tourism. Prayagraj is a city filled with spirituality, literature, music, and art. It is the fourth destination for Akasa Air in Uttar Pradesh. Other than IXD, the airline operates to Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Lucknow.
On this route, Akasa Air faces head-on competition with IndiGo. Both airlines operate daily flights. With this launch, Akasa Air has also broken the near monopoly of IndiGo at Prayagraj Airport. Before this, IndiGo had a major presence at the airport, with Alliance Air operating a few weekly flights. As the fleet increases, Akasa will introduce flights from Delhi and Bengaluru to Prayagraj.
One More Connection to Ayodhya
At a point when airlines like SpiceJet are reducing flights from Ayodhya Airport in bulk, Akasa Air is doing the opposite. The airline kickstarted operations at Ayodhya Airport with non-stop flights between Delhi and Ayodhya. It provided a single-stop flight connection between Pune and Ayodhya via Delhi.
On 13 May, Akasa Air started its second route to Ayodhya connecting the new airport to Bengaluru. Today, along with the Prayagraj launch, it has launched direct flights connecting Ayodhya and Mumbai. Boeing 737 MAX registered as VT-YAJ operated the maiden flight.
As of now, the airline is connecting Ayodhya to 3 cities: Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. Flights to the first 2 cities are operated daily, while Mumbai flights are operated six times a week.
Strong Uttar Pradesh Network
Currently, Akasa Air is operational in four cities in Uttar Pradesh, namely Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya. On May 29, this number will increase to five. The airline will add daily flights connecting Gorakhpur to both Delhi and Bengaluru. It will provide exclusive service between Gorakhpur and Bengaluru.
Moreover, it will become the third airline to connect Gorakhpur and Delhi after IndiGo & Alliance Air. Both 6E and 9I operate 14X and 5X weekly flights on this route respectively. With the launch of Gorakhpur flights, Akasa Air will be operating 10 routes from Uttar Pradesh.
Along with its domestic market, the airline is growing in the international market. At the start of the summer schedule, it started flights to Qatar. Doha became its inaugural destination. Now, it will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad to Jeddah. From 15 July, scheduled operations to Jeddah will kickstart.
Conclusion: Akasa Air Prayagraj Launch
Akasa Air, the newest major airline in India has started flights connecting Mumbai and Prayagraj. Furthermore, it is bolstering connectivity between Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh. On the same day, it launched flights from Mumbai to Ayodhya as well. Soon, with the Gorakhpur launch, Akasa Air will have 5 destinations and 10 routes in the Uttar Pradesh aviation market. This additional flight to Prayagraj augurs well with the upcoming Mahakumbh.
