SpiceJet Cabin Crew Members to Learn Sign Language
May 31 is marked as the International Cabin Crew Day. First of all, kudos to all the cabin crew members across the global airlines for making sure that our journey is safe and comfortable. On this occasion, SpiceJet has announced a new initiative for passengers with hearing impairments.
SpiceJet will train its cabin crew members with a customized program to learn sign language. With this, SpiceJet is demonstrating its dedication to fostering a more inclusive and welcoming environment for its passengers.
Many cabin crew members trained in sign language have been deployed on select flights with effect from today. The Noida Deaf Society (NDF) assists the staff members to receive basic language training. This training enables the crew to effectively communicate with passengers who have hearing impairments during their journeys.
Announcing this ground-breaking move, SpiceJet Business Officer Debojo Maharshi said that the airline is dedicated to ensuring a comfortable travel experience for every passenger. By training the cabin crew members with sign language, the airline is bridging the communication gap. He added that such initiatives capture the spirit of International Cabin Crew Day.
Following Global Carriers
Globally, many airlines have already launched such initiatives. Emirates has trained a section of its cabin crew members with courses related to sign language. Singapore International Airlines (SIA) also has such courses for crew training.
Air New Zealand, just a week ago took sign language to new heights. To mark the New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) week, the airline operated a flight, where the staff members used sign language to communicate with passengers. Even the in-flight announcements and service were conducted using sign language.
No need to go far away. In April end, the largest airline in India- IndiGo announced the opening of a special desk at Delhi Airport Terminal 1, exclusively for specially-abled passengers. To promote inclusivity, the airline deployed specially-abled employees on these desks to guide disabled passengers. This helps increase inclusivity among passengers as well as employees.
