In this article, let us have a close look at the details of these changes and introduce the new General Managers appointed by these carriers.
New General Manager in India for Ethiopian Airlines
The flag carrier of Ethiopia has changed its General Manager for the Indian subcontinent region. The airline has appointed Bezawit Tassew as the new General Manager for the region. She assumed the office with effect from April 1, 2024. Based in the financial capital of India – Mumbai, she will oversee the airline’s operations in the entire region.
Ms Tassew comes with a lot of experience in this field, holding a bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management. She has been working for Ethiopian Airlines since 2002. As time passed, she held various positions in departments including Sales & Marketing and Consumer relations. Prior to her role as the GM for the Indian subcontinent, she was working as an Area Manager for Ethiopian Airlines in Rwanda.
With her vast experience, she is expected to make a big difference in the operations of Ethiopian Airlines in the subcontinent by improving its presence in the region. The airline operates flights to two countries in the Indian subcontinent: India and Pakistan. It connects four Indian cities: Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi to Addis Ababa.
Additionally, it offers four weekly flights connecting Addis Ababa to Karachi in Pakistan. Other than civilian services, it also offers cargo flights to Mumbai and Chennai. It is the sole airline to connect India and Ethiopia.
Finnair Makes India Leadership Changes
Finnair has also announced the replacement of its General Manager for Indian operations. The airline has appointed Anupam Vig as the new General Manager – India. Other than India, Finnair does not operate in any other city in the Indian subcontinent. Mr Vig assumed his duties on January 1, 2024, but for some reason, the airline has announced its appointment after three months.
In his new role, Vig will replace Sakari Romu as the Indian General Manager. Romu will now oversee the airline’s operations in Japan.
Anupam joins this role with an experience of more than 20 years. He is considered an expert in the development and innovation of sales strategies, leading to improved growth and expanded market presence. According to the airline press release, his leadership will help to provide excellent service and connectivity to passengers traveling between India and Nordic countries.
Vice President of Global Sales for Finnair, Jenni Suomela extended a warm welcome to Anupam for his new appointment. She said that India will remain an important market for India. Vig said that he feels honored and delighted to join this new role. He emphasized his commitment to the airline, which has a legacy spanning more than 100 years. He would strengthen the airline’s position as a preferred choice for travelers between both countries.
Finnair currently operates daily flights between Delhi and Helsinki with the Airbus A350-900. Due to the absence of overflying rights of Russian Airspace, the Mumbai service has been halted. According to earlier media interactions, the airline has plans to relaunch Mumbai flights, whenever Russian airspace becomes available.
