Pieter Elbers invited his colleagues to India.
On his LinkedIn account, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers wrote:
“Another big day for Indian aviation and IndiGo! Today, IATA’s AGM in Dubai, announced Delhi, India as the location and IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) as the host airline for next year’s 81st AGM in 2025.”
The Last AGM in India Was Held in 1983
It was 1983 when the last Annual General Meeting of IATA was held in India. It was held in New Delhi.
Since its introduction in 1945, there have been only two instances when the AGM was held in India. One was held in 1958, while the other one in 1983. The 1958 edition was inaugurated by PM Jawaharlal Nehru. JRD Tata, the father of Indian aviation was te president of IATA at that time, with Air India and Indian Airlines as hosts. Now, the 81st edition is coming back to India.
Pieter Elbers added: “After 42 years, the IATA AGM’s return to India comes at a very appropriate time with the global rise of India and Indian aviation. India is emerging as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing civil aviation markets. Over the past 18 years, it has been IndiGo giving wings to the nation, by connecting people and aspirations. This recognition now is truly a very proud moment for all of us at IndiGo.”
“Personally, I am delighted and honored to serve as the Chairman of IATA’s Board of Governors, supporting IATA in its mission to lead, represent, and serve the global airline industry. Together with the industry, we will work towards promoting aviation as a force for good and the freedom to travel – for which India is a true poster child – as well as towards making the airline industry more safe, diverse, equitable, inclusive, and also more sustainable, creating positive change for generations to come. Proudly welcome you all to hashtag#IndiabyIndiGo 🙏”
