IndiGo: Temporary Suspensions Between Mumbai & Jakarta
According to the booking portal of IndiGo Airlines, the airline has temporarily removed some flights between Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Jakarta Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK). Normally, it operates daily flights on this route.
Flights between May 20 to May 22, May 27 to May 30, and June 3 to June 15 have been cancelled. Those, who had already pre-booked this flight have been informed about the flight cancellation. They have been issued a full refund. From June 16, normal flight operations will resume with daily flights.
IndiGo started flights between Mumbai and Jakarta on August 7, 2023. It is the only airline serving between India and Jakarta currently. During the pre-pandemic era, Garuda Indonesia used to operate flights on the Mumbai-Jakarta route, but it stopped operations owing to low demand.
Reason For Temporary Cancellations
IndiGo canceled these flights without any prior information. A Twitter account @ArenaJet pointed out these cancellations. The exact reasons behind these cancellations are unknown. This route comes under the top five longest routes operated by IndiGo.
One of the most possible reasons behind these cancellations may be a capacity augmentation to accommodate some other services. IndiGo is operating Hajj flights from major Indian cities.
To operate those flights, there is a chance that the airline has temporarily freed capacity from the Jakarta route. However, this is just a guess. The exact reason for the cancellation is unknown.
From June 16, the flights to Jakarta will operate normally. Other than Jakarta, IndiGo also operates daily flights to Bali. Vistara, another Indian airline connects Delhi to Bali. No Indonesian carrier operates flights to India. In August 2023, Batik Air Indonesia started flights between Medan and Chennai, but just after operating a few flights, it converted the service from Chennai-Medan to Chennai-Kuala Lumpur.
Air India to Jakarta??
In January 2024, Air India updated its route map on its website. Surprisingly, new destinations were included in that map. These new destinations included Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Rome, and Zurich.
However, the airline after some time removed these new destinations from the map. From this list, it has already announced the commencement of flights to one city: Zurich. Air India will foray into the Switzerland market in June month.
So, we can believe that Air India has its eyes on the Indonesian market. Since the privatization of Air India, the airline has changed a lot in terms of its international network. It has made a lot of changes in the European market. From June, it will enhance the frequency of flights to Milan and Amsterdam to daily.
Conclusion: IndiGo Mumbai to Jakarta Flight Canceled
IndiGo, which ventured into the Indonesian market with Jakarta launch on August 7 has temporarily removed some of its flights from the booking engine. Normal flight operations will resume on June 16. The exact reason for the cancellation is unknown.
