On January 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly built terminal building at Trichy International Airport (TRZ). The new passenger building is all set to be commissioned with effect from today. As happened in many cases, IndiGo will be the launch operator from the new terminal building.
Before the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a lot of new terminal buildings across India. Terminal buildings at various airports like Lucknow, Gwalior, and Kolhapur have been commissioned.
IndiGo: Launch Operator at New Trichy Terminal
With effect from June 11, IndiGo will shift its operations from the old terminal to the new integrated terminal building at Trichy International Airport. At 06:00 AM in the early morning, the new building will be officially commissioned.
According to airport director, P. Subramani, the first flight to dock at the new terminal building will be 6E1008, arriving from Singapore. However, the flight has been delayed. So, you can expect a change in plan. If 6E1008 is delayed, 6E7298 from Chennai will be the first flight to arrive at the new building at 07:00 AM. The first domestic flight to depart will be 6E7245 from Trichy to Bengaluru. This flight will depart at 07:40 AM.
IndiGo is the largest airline operator from Trichy Airport. It connects Trichy to 4 domestic and 1 international city. These cities include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Singapore.
In order to enhance connectivity, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has written to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to deploy buses at the new terminal building.
Terminal Specifications
In February 2019, the foundation stone for the construction of the new terminal building at Trichy Airport was laid. Fast forward to January 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the terminal building.
Spread across an area of 75,000 square meters, the terminal can handle 4.4 million passengers on an annual basis. For check-in, there are 60 counters. There are a total of 104 immigration counters, which include 60 for arrival and 44 for departures.
The new building is rated with four stars in the GRIHA system. In India, the GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) system is used to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings.
It has 19 X-ray baggage Inspection Machines. Out of the 10 aerobridges, five are operational. As more airlines shift their operations to the new building, the remaining five bridges will be operationalized as well. The building has been built at a cost of Rs 1,112 crore.
The cultural heritage of Trichy has been embedded into the new terminal building. The colors and shapes used in the building signify the entrance of a temple.
Conclusion
IndiGo will shift its operations from the old terminal to the new terminal building at Trichy Airport. 6E 1008 from Singapore to Trichy is expected to be the first international flight to dock at the new building. In January, PM Modi had inaugurated this building, built at a cost of more than Rs 1,100 crore.
