- SUMMARY
- Italian carrier Neos Air is all set to establish a new route from Amritsar Airport.
- Neos is the only airline connecting Amritsar to Italy.
- Number of routes between India and Italy will increase from 4 to 5.
Italian Low-Cost Carrier Neos Air will connect the city of Amritsar to Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY). With this addition, the airline will be again connecting the Golden City to three Italian cities. Previously, it was connecting Amritsar to Verona, but for some reason, it has stopped the services. The last flight in this sector was operated on April 29.
But now, Neos Air will again connect Amritsar with three airports in Italy. Let us take a look at the flight details.
Neos Air: Amritsar to Bergamo
From 10 July, Neos Air will start flights between Amritsar and Milan Bergamo. The airline will be operating one weekly flight on this route. This flight will be operational on Wednesdays. According to the airline’s announcement on social media, it will be deploying the Boeing 787 on this route.
Neos Air has a fleet of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. As the airline identifies as a Low-Cost Carrier, it has no business class. These widebody aircraft are configured with 28 Premium Economy and 327 Economy Class seats.
Neos Air operates to only one Indian city in the form of Amritsar. It connects Amritsar to Milan Malpensa and Rome with one weekly flight each. These flights are also operated by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Initially, the airline used to operate these flights using a narrowbody aircraft, with a fuel stopover at Tbilisi. After witnessing a demand uptick, it has upgraded the routes to widebody aircraft.
Neos Air is gradually expanding its presence in the Asian market. In April, it signed a codeshare agreement with the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, Air Astana. Neos operates twice daily to Almaty with its B787s.
India-Italy Aviation Market
Currently, three airlines are present in the civil aviation market between India and Italy. These are Neos Air, ITA Airways, and Air India.
Air India, which resumed services to Milan Malpensa in March 2023 will soon increase its frequency. From 21 June, flights will be operated daily between Delhi and Milan. Pre-pandemic, Air India used to operate flights to Rome as well. As the airline rebound its international network, it is expected to resume Rome services again.
The gap in the Rome market is served by ITA Airways. The revamped Alitalia is now operating daily flights between Delhi and Rome. When the airline completed one year of operations on this route, the General Manager for India expressed the airline’s intention to expand its presence to Mumbai.
Neos Air is the sole airline connecting Italy to Amritsar. It is currently operating flights to Milan and Rome. From 10 July, it will start the Milan Bergamo service. If it resumes the Verona flights, it will connect Amritsar to four Italian cities.
One more airline- SpiceJet used to operate flights between Amritsar and Milan. At one point, the airline even deployed its leased A340 on this route. But as its fleet decreased, it ceased Italian operations.
Conclusion
Neos Air is set to connect Amritsar to Milan Bergamo airport. With this move, it will again connect the Golden City to three Italian cities. In addition to non-stop passengers, the airline is also focusing on transit passengers heading from Amritsar to the USA or Canada. Air India, ITA Airways, and Neos Air are the only airlines present in the India-Italy aviation market.
