Between April 2023 and March 2024, the airports handled by Adani Airports Holding Ltd (AAHL) handled more than a million metric tonnes of cargo. This is a record milestone. Adani Group is operating a total of seven airports under the PPP model. These are Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Trivandrum, Mangaluru, Jaipur, and Guwahati. By the end of this financial year, Navi Mumbai Airport will join this list.
Adani Airports Handles Record Cargo
In FY24, the seven airports handled by Adani Group managed a total of 10,13,115 metric tonnes of cargo. When compared to the previous year, these airports registered an increase of seven percent. In FY23, they handled 9,44,912 metric tonnes.
Adani Group is now handling 30.1% of the air cargo market from India. The airports witnessed a significant growth in international cargo shipments. Foreign cargo shipments consisted of 65% of the overall freight, registering an annual growth of 9 percent.
Commodities like automobiles, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and engineering goods were the drivers of cargo operations. In terms of passenger traffic, these airports handle 23% of the country’s passengers.
Mumbai Airport has recorded its highest cargo volumes for the March month. In FY24, the airport witnessed a 10% increase in international freight volumes. It is yet to attain the pre-pandemic numbers in terms of cargo operations.
Lucknow Airport too witnessed its largest volume of 700 tonnes in March month. Ahmedabad Airport welcomed the inaugural commercial flight of IndiGo Airbus A321P2F on May 18, 2023.
Key Cargo Destinations & New Carriers
Domestically, the busiest cargo routes from Mumbai Airport were Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. On the international front, the leading markets included the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Netherlands, and America.
In the past financial year, Mumbai Airport received a lot of new cargo airlines. CMA CGM AirCargo, Challenger Air, Air Tanzania Cargo, and Kenya Airways Cargo were the new airlines starting dedicated freighter flights from the Airport. CMA CGM resumed its services.
At Ahmedabad Airport, Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has started dedicated freighter flights using the Boeing 767F.
CEO of Adani Airports Holding Limited, Arun Bansal said that the group has been achieving new heights for efficient operations. This milestone of handling more than 1 million metric tonnes of cargo is a cherry on top. This will bolster the airport operator’s presence in both domestic and international cargo operations.
