Yesterday, an incident happened at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), which shows the importance and preparedness of our armed forces. A passenger fell unconscious at the airport facility. A CISF official performed a life-saving CPR procedure on that passenger.
CISF Official Saves Life
At Delhi Airport Terminal 3, Air India flight AI185 from Delhi to Vancouver was getting ready for the initiation of the boarding procedure. A passenger named Balbir Singh was traveling on this flight. Near the boarding gate, Singh suffered a seizure attack. He blacked out and collapsed.
Sub-Inspector Laxman Upadhyay of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), who was deployed at boarding gate number 6 rushed to the location. He called for medical help. In the meantime, he performed a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the passenger to revive him. Other officers guided him.
After the CPR, the condition of the passenger started to improve. He was taken to the medical room in Terminal 3, where he was attended by doctors. Later on, he was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for further treatment.
A statement from a CISF spokesperson mentioned,
“On 11.06.2024 at about 1052 hrs, Sub-Inspector Laxman Upadhyay of CISF who was performing duty at Boarding Gate No. 06 at IGI Airport New Delhi, noticed that a passenger, later identified as Mr. Balbir Singh, who was supposed to travel from Delhi to Vancouver by Vistara Flight No. AI-185 (STD 0720 hrs), suddenly lost unconsciousness and fell down on the floor.”

CISF and Their Medical Preparedness
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials are well-trained in basic first aid and emergency response procedures to handle various health conditions. Other than their primary role as security personnel, they can provide assistance in medical emergencies until professional help arrives.
They can handle various health emergencies like performing CPR, basic wound care & bleeding control, basic life support techniques, recognition and initial response to emergencies like heart attacks, strokes & seizures, providing assistance in case of poisoning, and managing heat-related illness, among others.
Conclusion
At Delhi Airport Terminal 3, a passenger named Balbir Singh fell unconscious. A CISF official named Laxman Upadhyay reached the spot and performed a life-saving CPR procedure. Following this, the passenger started feeling better. He was then taken to a Medical room in T3, from where he was transferred to Medanta Hospital for further care and treatment.
