- SUMMARY
- IndiGo to connect Chandigarh Airport to Abu Dhabi.
- This will be the second international connection for Chandigarh.
- IndiGo will enhance its network from Abu Dhabi to 9 Indian cities with 63X weekly flights.
In an interesting move, IndiGo has announced the launch date for its new route connecting Chandigarh to Abu Dhabi. In my opinion, this is interesting because Amritsar, which is a more popular and important airport in this region has still not received Abu Dhabi connectivity.
IndiGo Bridges Chandigarh to Abu Dhabi
With effect from 15 May, India’s largest Low-Cost Carrier- IndiGo will connect Chandigarh to Abu Dhabi. This will be a special moment for the airport as it will be its second international connection. IndiGo, exclusively operates international flights from Chandigarh. Currently, it operates daily flights to Dubai. The new Abu Dhabi service will be live from May 15, operating daily with Airbus A320neo.
Here is a quick look at the flight timings:
Flight Number | Departure Airport | Departure Time | Arrival Time | Arrival Airport |
6E1417 | Abu Dhabi | 22:15 | 03:30 (+1) | Chandigarh |
6E1418 | Chandigarh | 02:45 | 05:15 | Abu Dhabi |
This route is expected to ease travel for businessmen and travelers. In addition to this flight, the airline will also non-stop connection between Lucknow and Abu Dhabi. With these additions, it will operate 63 times a week to Abu Dhabi from a total of nine Indian cities. Currently, it connects Abu Dhabi to 6 Indian cities.
Lucknow to Abu Dhabi Connection
From 15 May, IndiGo will also connect Lucknow to Abu Dhabi. Similar to the Chandigarh route, it will operate daily flights from here as well. The aircraft rotation would go as follows: Lucknow – Abu Dhabi – Chandigarh – Abu Dhabi – Lucknow
Here is a look at flight timings between Lucknow and Abu Dhabi:
Flight Number | Departure Airport | Departure Time | Arrival Time | Arrival Airport |
6E1415 | Abu Dhabi | 18:15 | 21:15 | Lucknow |
6E1416 | Lucknow | 06:15 | 11:25 | Abu Dhabi |
According to the filing in the Summer Schedule, these flights were expected to start on March 31, but the airline postponed its plans to May month. Unlike other airports in the UAE, Abu Dhabi is not a slot-constraint airport, and hence, IndiGo is making the most out of it. There are ample flying rights remaining for flying to Abu Dhabi.
As per the current network, IndiGo connects Abu Dhabi to 6 Indian cities. It operates daily flights from each one of them. These cities are Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kochi, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. These routes use the flight number 6E14XX series and witness the deployment of A320neo equipment.
This new AUH connection holds great significance for Chandigarh Airport. Despite being connected to the entire India, the airport has only a single flight. In 2016, IndiGo launched the first-ever international flight from Chandigarh. Air India Express used to operate flights between Chandigarh and Sharjah but it has stopped its services.
Cultural Significance
Abu Dhabi, the Capital City of the United Arab Emirates is well known for its beautiful theme parks, impressive buildings, cultural landmarks, and lovely beaches. Thanks to the large oil reserves of the country, the city has fully grown into a developed metropolis. Some of the popular places to visit include Ferrari World, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Emirates Park Zoo, and Al Ain Palace Museum.
Chandigarh on the other hand is the capital of two Indian states. It is famous for its architecture and modernization. It was designed by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier. The city is famous for its lovely gardens. Some of the top attractions are the Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, and the Capitol Complex. The city is also famous for its cleanliness and surroundings, which make it the perfect spot for business and leisure travelers.
