The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved the merger proposal of Air India and Vistara. Both airlines now have more opportunities for streamlining operations. The Vistara brand will be fully dissolved into Air India within nine months of filing the merger proposal in the NCLT. The airline previously said that it would start informing its customers about the merger once the NCLT approval is granted.
Now, it seems that this process has started.
Vistara Issues a Public Notice
To reach a wider audience, newspaper is the best way. Vistara has issued a public notice in the newspaper regarding its merger with Air India. The notice stated that Vistara will soon become a part of TATA Group’s mainline carrier, Air India, and will provide customers with better connectivity and more options.
During the merger, both airlines will share their resources, specialization, and competencies. The ultimate aim is to deliver exceptional value to customers across the globe.
Highlighting Data Transfer and Privacy
Vistara/TATA SIA Airlines has majorly highlighted the data privacy part. An airline has a lot of information about its passengers. This includes personal data, payment information, travel preferences, and many more.
Vistara said that during the merger, the data of Vistara passengers will be shifted to Air India. The airline is committed to ensuring that the privacy of passenger’s data is not breached.
Furthermore, it said that it is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the data transfer process. In the future, it will continue to issue such public notices to communicate with the passengers. If a passenger is willing to gather more information regarding this data transfer, they can contact the Data Protection Officer of Vistara at DPO@airvistara.com.
In September 2023, India’s new Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) 2023 came into effect. This law emphasizes transparency and accountability from organizations whenever they process consumer data. It requires the company to inform individuals about the reason for collecting and processing their data. This public notice from Vistara is likely to fulfill these transparency requirements.
Both FSC & LCC Receive approvals
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved the merger proposals of both Full Service Carriers (Air India and Vistara) and both Low-Cost Carriers (AIX Connect and Air India Express). There is a high possibility that the TATA Group will enter 2025 with just two airline brands: Air India and Air India Express.
Vistara will be dissolved before the completion of a decade of operations. In January 2025, the SIA-TATA Group JV was about to complete 10 years of operations. For the 49% stake in Vistara, Singapore International Airlines will be getting 25.1% in the merged Air India. In addition, SBICap Trustee Company will be holding a 1.52% stake on behalf of Air India Employee Settlement Trust.
On 12 June, NCLT Chandigarh Unit approved the merger of AIX Connect and Air India Express. Within the next 9 months, AIX Connect will be fully dissolved into the Air India Express brand. The Low-Cost Carrier is looking to achieve a century of fleet by the end of this year. Within the next six months, it is aiming to induct 24 Boeing 737 MAX jets.
