- Both countries have an open sky agreement allowing unlimited flights from designated POCs.
National carriers of both India and Canada are set to add more services between both countries. On the one hand, Air India is looking to increase flight services between Toronto and Delhi, while on the other hand, Air Canada is aiming to enhance offerings between Montreal and Delhi.
In this article, let us look at the service increments for both carriers.
Air India Increasing Delhi to Toronto Services
Air India is currently operating to two Canadian cities. One of these cities is Toronto. The airline connects Toronto to Delhi with daily flights. Unlike the other ULH routes, this route is still operated using the older Boeing 777-300ER fleet. Now, the airline is all set to expand on this route.
From 1 September, it will increase the frequency from 7X weekly to 10X weekly. Additional three flights will be operated on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Since Premium Economy bookings are not available for these flights, there is a likely chance that these flights will be operated with an older fleet too.
Here is a quick look at the timings of the additional services:
Flight Number | Origin | Departure Time | Arrival Time | Destination |
AI189 | Delhi | 16:05 | 21:15 | Toronto |
AI190 | Toronto | 01:15 | 00:35 (+1) | Delhi |
Other than Toronto, Air India operates daily flights connecting Delhi to Vancouver. These flights are also operated using the legacy Boeing 777-300ER fleet.
Air Canada Montreal-Delhi Expansion
The flag carrier of Canada connects Delhi to two cities: Montreal and Toronto. Flights between Montreal and Delhi are operated three times a week utilizing the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. But this scenario is going to change in the upcoming Winter schedule.
From the winter schedule starting 27 October, Air Canada will be operating daily flights between Delhi and Montreal. With this, it will double its capacity on this route. The additional services will also be operated using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Here is a look at the timings of Air Canada flights in the coming winter.
Flight Number | Origin | Departure Time | Arrival Time | Destination |
AC50 | Montreal | 20:30 | 20:50 (+1) | Delhi |
AC51 | Delhi | 23:05 | 06:10 (+1) | Montreal |
Air Canada has a fleet of 31 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The airline has configured these jets with 30 Business, 21 Premium Economy, and 247 Economy Class seats.
India-Canada Aviation Market
Canada is one of the few countries, with which India has signed an Open Skies Agreement. Signed in November 2022, this agreement allows carriers from both sides to operate unlimited flights between designated airports. Indian carriers can operate to Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, and an additional 2 points. On the other hand, airlines from Canada can operate to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Surprisingly, Amritsar which is one of the largest markets is not included in this list.
Because of the unavailability of Russian airspace, Air Canada can operate limited flights to India. In the winter schedule, it starts seasonal flights connecting Toronto to Mumbai via London Heathrow. In the non-stop market, it operates daily to Toronto and 3X weekly to Montreal.
Currently, Air India is operating daily flights connecting Delhi to Toronto and Vancouver.
Conclusion
Flag carriers from both India and Canada are looking to increase flight services between both countries. Air India will increase frequency on the Delhi to Toronto route, while Air Canada will enhance services on the Delhi to Montreal route. This information is subject to change in schedule.
